family migration

Family stream migrants must be sponsored or nominated by a close family member or fiancée living in Australia. The sponsor must be either an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen, and would usually be 18 years of age or older. Family Stream migrants are selected on the basis of their family relationship with their sponsor or nominator in Australia; there is no test for skills or language ability as for Skilled Stream migrants. Like all migrants, Family Stream applicants are assessed on an individual basis and they must be assessed against Australia's health and character requirements.

Family Stream applicants can be sponsored for migration in one of the following visa categories:

  • Partner/Spouse - for those who are married to or intend to marry an Australian citizen or permanent resident or if you are living with your Australian partner and not married (Permanent Resident or Citizen of Australia) or have lived with your partner at some stage)
  • Prospective Marriage (Fiancé) - for those who are intending to marry an Australian citizen or permanent resident in Australia
  • Interdependency - for applicants who are in same sex relationships
  • Child
  • Adoption
  • Orphan Relative
  • Parent
  • Working Age and Aged Parent
  • Aged Dependent Relative - elderly people who are now single and have family in Australia
  • Remaining Relative - if you are the last family member remaining overseas
  • Carer
Assurance of Support
Some Family Stream applicants are subject to a required (mandatory) Assurance of Support (AoS), which includes payment of a bond. Other Family Stream applicants may be subject to a discretionary AoS if assessed as being at risk of becoming a charge on Australia's social welfare budget. An AoS is a legal commitment by an assuror to repay the Commonwealth of Australia any social security payments made to Family Stream entrants covered by the assurance in the first two years after their migration from overseas or grant of permanent residence in Australia.

RETIREMENT IN AUSTRALIA

Australia is one of the safest and most desired places to live. It has the lowest population density in the world therefore it is still uniquely untouched. Australia offers unspoiled beaches and lagoons; it is still free from pollution and all the health problems that go with it. Australia is the perfect place for retirement with its wide spaces, unpolluted environment and relaxed way of life.

You can join Australians for a round of golf, become a member of one of the numerous senior citizen clubs, or simply take your time and enjoy life the way only you can. You can choose to retire next to the beach, or in quite country outback, or next to the golf course.

To be eligible for this visa you must be over 55 years of age, have no dependants (other than a spouse), and are able to be self-supporting in Australia without cost to Australia's social and welfare services. The visa permits stay in Australia for four years and then allows for two-year extensions.

Retirement Visa’s general features:

  • The applicant must have no dependants within the applicant or applicant's spouse's family unit and be in good health with no criminal record
  • On first grant, a Retirement Visa is valid for four years. After that time it can be renewed every two years.
  • A spouse may be included on the Visa Application, regardless of age.
  • Visa holders may undertake up to 20 hours of work per week
  • First time applicants will need to provide evidence of adequate arrangements for health insurance in Australia. This generally means a need to produce evidence of comprehensive health insurance, covering hospital and medical costs with an Australian insurer.
